On Sunday, May 31, the YMCA of Saginaw partnered with the City of Saginaw for the Play Dates in the Park series to host a special Water Safety Day at the YMCA. Families from across the community joined us for a fun, hands-on afternoon focused on learning how to stay safe around water during the summer months.

Kids had the chance to get into the YMCA shallow pool, try out basic water safety skills, and receive a free U.S. Coast Guard–certified life jacket to take home. More than 40 life jackets were distributed throughout the morning—helping families leave not just with a great memory, but with an important safety tool for the season ahead.
In recognition of Water Safety Month, the event centered on preventing drowning and promoting safe habits around pools, lakes, and other waterways. It was a meaningful way to bring education and fun together in one place.

We’re especially grateful to our partners who helped make the day such a success, including Abbey Alverson with the City of Saginaw, David Morris with Scouts of America, the U.S. Coast Guard, and all of the volunteers who gave their time and energy to support local families.
We’re already looking forward to bringing Water Safety Day back again next summer.

Be sure to check the city website for other events in this series!
