HOST (Healthy Out of School Time) – Staff Member

As a HOST Staff member, you will provide direct supervision and care for children in our HOST program, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and fun environment. You’ll be the first point of contact for families and their children, creating positive relationships and promoting the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions:

  • Implement curriculum and activity plans in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Design and execute daily lesson plans and activities that engage children in learning and play.
  • Supervise and actively participate in activities with children of various age groups.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with children and parents through effective communication.
  • Ensure the HOST area is clean, organized, and well-maintained.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date program records as required.
  • Adapt quickly and appropriately to any unexpected situations to meet the needs of the children.
  • Arrive on time for shifts, wearing the required uniform and name tag, and be prepared for all duties.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years old (18 years of age preferred).
  • CPR/AED & First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people from various backgrounds.
  • Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Ability to visually, audibly, and verbally communicate effectively with children and parents.
  • Requires high levels of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
  • Must have sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform job responsibilities, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and occasionally stoop or bend.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance at all times.
