Christmas Under the Sea

Are you looking for something fun for your kids to do during Christmas Break? Join us at the Y for our Christmas Under the Sea day camp! From 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, kids will dive into ocean-themed activities and learn about the sea in exciting ways. They’ll do hands-on science experiments to discover how things float or sink, and build simple models to understand ocean currents and marine animals. There will be swimming and gym games, like relay races and crab walks, to help everyone stay active and work together as a team. We’ll also talk about why oceans are important, how to stay safe around water, and enjoy healthy meals and snacks. This camp is a great way to make new friends, learn cool facts about the ocean, and have lots of fun during the holidays!

What to Expect at Christmas Break Camp

Looking for something for the kids to do during Christmas Break? Come and join us here at the Y for a Christmas Under the Sea!
From 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, drop the kids off for an ocean themed day camp.

Explore Ocean Science Through Hands-On STEM Activities:

Staff will guide students to investigate basic ocean concepts such as buoyancy, density, and marine life adaptations by engaging in interactive experiments and building simple models. For example, children can test which objects float or sink in water, or create “ocean in a bottle” projects to visualize layers and currents.

Develop Physical Fitness and Teamwork Skills in an Aquatic Setting:

Students will be encouraged to participate in swimming and gym-based games that promote movement, coordination, and collaboration. Activities might include relay races in the pool, group challenges inspired by sea creatures (e.g., “crab walk” races), and cooperative gym games that foster social skills and healthy habits.

Connect Ocean Themes to Everyday Life:

Staff will help students make real-world connections by exploring how ocean environments relate to their own experiences, such as discussing the importance of water safety, healthy eating (with lunch and snacks provided), and the role of oceans around the world. This objective aims to deepen understanding and appreciation for the ocean while making learning relevant and fun during the holiday break.
