Saginaw YMCA Plans Special Day of Giving on March 3, 2020

The Saginaw YMCA will host a special Day of Giving on March 3, 2020, to spotlight the YMCA of Saginaw’s Community Impact Campaign. This one-day event will feature a variety of activities, including a 50-mile treadmill challenge led by YMCA leadership and volunteers, as well as a Burpee’s for Bucks program. All funds raised will directly support programs that benefit the local community, including financial assistance for memberships, youth camps, and health initiatives. The campaign’s impact includes providing over 39,000 healthy meals, supporting veterans through Tribute Tuesday, and teaching water safety to over 350 youth.

Saginaw YMCA Kicks Off Community Impact Campaign

The YMCA of Saginaw’s 2020 Community Impact Campaign, Together We Strengthen Community, is dedicated to addressing the most urgent needs in the local area. With a goal of raising $125,000, the Y aims to provide programs that support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility for all members of the Saginaw community. Donations will help increase access to services like summer camps, swim lessons, and wellness programs, ensuring that everyone can thrive regardless of income. Your support will make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most.

LiveSTRONG at the YMCA

Rachel, a participant in the first LiveSTRONG at the YMCA session, encourages others not to be afraid to join, even with limitations. She found strength in the progress she made and the encouragement from the instructors, saying, “I can do this.” Now, she feels confident using gym machines and is grateful for the positive impact the program has had on her recovery.

YMCA of Saginaw to Host Veterans Health Open House & Expo

The YMCA of Saginaw, in collaboration with the Aleda Lutz VA Medical Facility, will host a Veterans Open House and Health Fair on February 19th, 2020, from 9 am to 1 pm. The event will feature up to 50 vendors showcasing veteran-centric products and services, a 2K walk hosted by the VA’s MOVE! Program, and a non-perishable food drive for the I Support the 1% Food Pantry. Veterans and their families can enjoy complimentary health screenings, visit vendor booths, and learn about available resources. This free event is a great opportunity for camaraderie and connection, with YMCA membership perks for those who complete the walk.

Rozina Murphy

Rozina Murphy, a Y member since 2007, started private swim lessons in 2019, focusing on basics like floating and breathing. By her 8th lesson, she was swimming laps without assistance, reaching her goal of enjoying family swims. We’re so proud of her progress and dedication to a healthy lifestyle!

Living Our Cause Radiothon

The YMCA of Saginaw is excited to announce its partnership with Alpha Media Stations for the YMCA Living Our Cause Radiothon, happening Thursday, November 7, 2019, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. This special event will feature stories highlighting the impact of YMCA programs and community partners, with proceeds benefiting the YMCA’s Annual Campaign in Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.

Healthy Aging Wellness Fair and Open House

The YMCA of Saginaw, in collaboration with the Commission on Aging Friendship Senior Center, is excited to host a Senior Health Expo and Open House from October 17-19, 2019. This three-day event will feature up to 50 vendors showcasing senior-focused products, services, and health screenings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, with facility tours and a complimentary day pass to the YMCA’s amenities available throughout the event. This free community event is an opportunity for camaraderie, fellowship, and to learn about the YMCA’s programs tailored to support aging adults.

Mural Project Turns Hallway into YMCA Art

The YMCA of Saginaw is excited to unveil a new mural project inside its community hub, created by local artist Sydney Veverka, featuring 13 panels that highlight the vibrant activities and events at the Y. Guests have already expressed their admiration for the whimsical artwork, which showcases the talent and diversity of the Great Lakes Bay Region. This project was made possible through the generous support of ITC, and the YMCA looks forward to continuing its partnership with ITC to strengthen the community and celebrate its creativity.

Wanda Washington

After a heart attack and several health challenges, Wanda Washington joined the Y in 2018 through the Silver Sneakers program. Since then, she’s lost weight, improved her blood sugar, and put her diabetes in remission, thanks to classes like Dance Fit. Wanda’s journey is a powerful reminder that making the right choice for your health can transform your life!

Childhood Obesity is a Family Affair

The YMCA of Saginaw is dedicated to helping families in Saginaw, MI combat childhood obesity by promoting healthier habits. With Childhood Obesity Awareness Month in September, the Y aims to provide resources and support for families to develop sustainable, healthy lifestyles. Through programs like youth sports, aquatics, mission nutrition, and community events like the Jack-O-Dash, the YMCA of Saginaw fosters a supportive environment for improving physical activity and nutrition, ensuring a healthier future for children and families.
